EPL Preview: Manchester City vs Manchester United
Will the league be wrapped up tonight? Or is there still a final twist of fate left in this season for Manchester United? The question will be answered tonight. With United being on a pretty poor run of form of late and City being poor over the season as a whole, it will be an exciting contest, to say the least. A match which supposedly should have decided the Champions elect is a sharp contrast instead, with City trying to stay in the hunt – 15 points adrift of league leaders United.

Manchester City will be looking to go all out on Manchester United, with the intent to prove to their rivals that they are still very much strong. Hence, expect Mancini to put out a very strong XI. The latest news that Matija Nastasic is declared fit to play is a huge boost for Manchester City. With Carlos Tevez in a fine form of late, expect him to lead the Man City attack with either Sergio Aguero, who has an average season hit with injuries, or Edin Dzeko. Kompany, who reportedly had an argument with Mancini and is linked with a move to Barcelona, is expected to start.
Manchester United, on the other hand, will be looking to wrap up the league with a win tonight, have Wayne Rooney back from an illness which forced him out of the FA Cup loss to Chelsea. Whether Nemanja Vidic, Rafael or Jonny Evans have overcome their injury niggles and will start or not is still a question that remains unanswered. Phil Jones should be available for the derby tonight, which is a huge boost for United.
More than City, it will be interesting how United will approach this game. United are at home, and were very impressive with the tactics they deployed against Real Madrid, before THAT red card changed the game. Should Sir Alex deploy a similar strategy, it would mean Rooney dropped to the bench again, with Welbeck and Giggs preferred over him. However, looking at the last meeting between these two sides, United played a counter-attacking masterclass against City, with Rooney instrumental in finishing off their counter-attacks. Sir Alex surely has some questions to answer – the main being the threat of Yaya Toure. This is where the presence of Phil Jones, who has the ability to man-mark a player out of the game, could be prove to be crucial. Deploying Jones in the midfield will mean Cleverley dropped to the bench. However, Cleverley did a fine marking on Toure at the Etihad Stadium, so there will be no surprised if he starts instead of Jones.
Players To Watch Out For
Wayne Rooney adds a different dimension to the United team when he plays, and this is clearly evident from the lack of bite United had when they played without him against Chelsea. He, and not RvP is United’s main man. Carlos Tevez has been in a fine touch for City of late, scoring 7 times in 7 games, he’ll be out to hurt his former employers.
Expect this to be a cagey contest at first, but then springing to life. City to dominate, but United holding out and probably hurting them on the counter. United will look to play safe, basically, as they have nothing to lose.
